Sump setup choices

Hey all,

Setting up a new 20 Long for a sump, and I'm having a tough time deciding on how the equipment I have should be arranged. Specifically the skimmer.

I have an AquaC EV120 driven by an Eheim 1260 pump. What I'm wondering about is if the skimmer output can/should be in the same chamber with it's pump,
or should the output be directed into a different chamber? Seems that the skimmer would recirculate the same water though if the skimmer and pump were in the
same compartment, but maybe that doesn't matter?

I could build the sump baffles so that there is a compartment at the opposite end and just plumb it over there...letting it drain back into the center for the return too.. but then I won't have space for chaeto if I ever need to go that way...

any help?

Thanks,

Shaummy

The water should flow through the sump fast enough to not just skimmer the same water over and over. But if u can make the output go into the return pump chamber do it. Can't hurt. Mine jsut dumps back into the skimmer chamber.

So maybe I could use the far left chamber as the return..and just have the skimmer ( and excess drain water) go into the center section where some chaeto could go..not planning a fuge since it would be quite small. There would be full flow of my drain through the skimmer section so yeah..I guess there wouldn't be as much recirculation as I would think.

so it'd be 3 chambers :

| Return | chaeto | Skimmer&pump |
