Tank Advice/Direction

I picked up a used 210 a while back with full intentions of drilling it for 2 central overflows and setting it up as a peninsula. I knew it was a tempered bottom so drilling the existing floor is out of the question(unless someone here can guarantee they can do it with out any issues). My idea is to get an acrylic bottom bottom made with overflows glued and then tare the tank apart to swap out floors and clean etc.

Now for the questions:

1. Should I follow suit and go with half inch acrylic or should I go bigger for the bottom?

2. Is there anyone in area who can cut a sheet 72x30 and make the overflows?

3. Should I just ditch this tank and go 100% acrylic to avoid the amount of work coming my way?

Just looking for some advice as this will be my first complete tear down of any tank. Ive already built the stand and purchased 75% of everything needed for the 210.
 
I have a 210 peninsula drilled on the top corner with two holes. The flow is roughly 2400+gph through them. I don't think you really need to change out the bottom or take the tank apart in general.

Willing to post a picture or pm me a picture of your setup? Im curious as to how you setup yours?
 
I agree. Taking the tank apart creates too much risk. The adhesives used for gluing glass and acrylic I believe are different and don't permanently adhere to one another. I could be wrong. I would just keep the system you have together now and drill the sides like strike said. I would love to see some pics of this set up so please create a build thread.:8fish:
 
frosty is rite u could not us acrylic for the bottom bc they will not stay together u would have to use non tempered glass i would just drill the back of the tank if want to drill it or use and external overflow box

My only camera is my phone, which broke yesterday, not sure when or how I'll be fixing it yet. Basically there are 2 2" bulkheads going into a glass holes 3000 box on the inside. Their design to make it silent is ****, I was able to turn it into a Herbie with some Acrylic. In retrospect I should have asked someone to just build me a box, but the idea still holds. You're welcome to stop by and check out my design, but you're pretty far away. Here are some random pictures of the result

You definitely can't do acrylic. Is there a reason you can't drill the sides? Or will it not fit that way?
 
Ya i would just avoid alll that hassle and just drill the sides or the back. I have to replace the bottom on my 180 i just got and i can tell you already its not gunna be fun. As far as the overflows you want i would get ahold of will, i just bought a internal from him and it looks great for 1/2 the price of online.

What I'd like to do is make two towers centered in the tank and bond the rock to them to make shelves. Plus I Don't have the room on the end of the tank to fit an overflow. Nothin can be plumbed in the sides since they will be 100% open since this tank is a peninsula and being used as a wall. So my only option is plumb them straight down

I roughly laid out what I want to do. I never realized glass tanks were glued. Always thought the rims and silicone were what held everything together. Please learn me more as I am new modifying tanks but not to setting them up.

It's very tight on that side since my main drain is there. But I'm going to take a few measurements once my leg is healed now see if the gh3000 would fit. Do you have any issues one other end of your tank with water quality? I'm just afraid that that half of the tank won't get as much filtration as the end with the overflow. But I'm sure I can solve that problem by pointing the flow from that end towards the overflow.
 
I too have a peninsula with an overflow on one end, and as long as your system has good flow throughout, there's nothing to worry about. I, too, think that you should drill the side along the wall and just attach some 90s to the bulkhead. Simple and easy!
