Threaded or slip on PVC and pump questions

A couple questions for some of the people who've done this before...I tried the search but was not finding the basics...I'll be posting a build for idiots when I get all my parts! I'm running a 55gal with two hang on back filters right now that suck...got some polyps, frogspawn, sun coral and other stuff.

1. I'm getting ready to drill my 120. Getting the 2 3/8 saw-bit from glassholes. planning on running 2 overflows with 1 1/2 pvc from tank to sump. Do I want threaded fittings with teflon tape or slip fittings with glue/cement? and what is the right cement.

2. How much pump do i really need to get 5ft in the air (back to the tank)?

3. How much turnover do i really want? 120 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump...any pump recommendations would be great. I was looking at the eheim pumps and they have a 158, 317 or 635 gph pump. I think 635 would be overkill, but would 158 be enough?

Any advice is very appreciated.

Def go with something bigger for pump wise. something like a mag 12 or mag 18. mag 18 would prob be a little to much but 12 should be fine.

I am plumbing my 40 breeder now, It is a mix of glue and threaded fittings. I like a piece of flexible tubing somewhere in the pipeline for removal and to cut down on vibration. I would think a mag12 would be plenty for your setup. My sump has two inlets, one for the fuge and one for the skimmer side with a center return. I can dial in the fuge flow and can allow the extra into the skimmer chamber. Sort of a simple closed loop. I am not sure you need dual overflows though. You will get better surface skim though. These glass holes overflows are the bomb I will be firing mine up soon. I am deciding on my stand for my old 75 gallon or making a new one. Anyone need a nice maple stand for a 75?
