Tunze 9001 Skimmer

Has anybody heard of this skimmer yet or anybody used it?

I learned about it the other day and just ordered mine earlier today. I should have it tomorrow! I can't wait to get it in the tank and see how it does.

This is the newer model of the 9002, which I loved.

It has a smaller footprint and a better design in my opinion. I think it will also work much better in some of the smaller AIO tanks like the rear chamber of the JBJ tanks. I used the 9002 on my last tank and I was just about to order a new one for my new tank. I found that they had a new model out and decided to try it.

Steve at Intank has a video review on it. Looks sweet!

It is noticeably smaller than the 9002. The height, width and everything. It also feels much better. The plastic feels sturdier and the build quality overall seems far superior to the 9002.

No English instruction booklet was in my box. The warranty card was english though! LOL I set it up in a few minutes. It has a waterline indicator so it was easy to get it in and running. For the first few seconds, I could hear it while the water moved around, after a few seconds though, and with the cup on, it is dead silent. I mean silent!

I just have to dial it down a bit because it is too wet. The dial is easy to use and the entire skimmer is impressive so far. The only issue I had is the lid is very tight. So when i wanted to check it a few times, I had to take the entire cup off and pull the lid with some force but I guess I prefer it over the inTank one from before because that one always scared the hell out of me that I would drop the cup and spill skimmate everywhere.

The cup and body and everything is smaller than the original 9002. Also, for the JBJ cubes, you do not need to cut the magnet on this one. It has a magnet mod for the tanks with a lip so you can mount it without issue. Very nice skimmer so far and highly customizable.

Here it is in my tank. The 9002, stood another 3 inches or more higher and the width had no room but now it has about an inch from the media basket.

I'll report more on the skimmate in the next few days but so far I am impressed.

Here it is without the cup on.

I have not seen any sign of the issue that the 9002 had with the bubbles. Stevie at inTank did soem serious testing on this for the past few weeks and he has not seen it either. I am pretty sure it is fixed.

not in reference to 9002 just in general .. for us aio ppl microbubbles is a serious headache :) main reason for me to pull of the IM skimmer and go skimmer less

Ah ok. The 9002 had a bad microbubble issue.

I put it in last night around 7:30 - 8 pm. So I didn't get a good gauge yet but with my 9002, I seen it right away. I will report back today when I get home.

I know Stevie said in a thread that he definitely preferred this one over the IM one. It was the same one you had. He mentioned the reasons being price, bubbles and sound.
