Warning do not buy apex wav pumps

Guys and Gals,

I will warn you this is a rant, so if you're not in the market for pumps you may want to save your time. If you are in the market for pumps, I'm posting my recent experience with Apex and WAVs.

I ordered my WAV kit 4-13 go them installed by end of April. Prior to the WAVs I had MP10s on my 55 and MP40s on my 150. I agree with the 1Link concept, the magnetic mount and wireless controller with MP40s is dated, so I decided to replace my 2 year old MP40s with WAV. The above said, Neptune has a good controller product, that is of good quality, I have always found their tech support and customer service to be lacking. I foolishly assumed their pump to be of good quality, knowing full well that if I needed support beyond the forum, I would be SOL.

Within two weeks I was getting stall messages that would go away and the pump kept on running. I opened a case and of course I'm the first one who has ever reported this issue, unless you look on the forum and like every other case find that when I'm told I'm the one and only with a problem by tech support i get redeemed and realize I'm not the first or the only.

A few days later the pumps stayed stalled and needed cleaned. I could not easily open them, so I just soaked them in vinegar and turned the impellers and good again for another two weeks, then same issue yesterday. This time I decided to open the case, the guard is difficult to remove, the right opened and didn't break anything, the left guard tapped the blade and broke it. Still can't remove the impeller from the housing (same complaints as others), so decided to soak in vinegar again and the right pump is back to operation.

I re-opened the 1st case and was told they have never heard of this, must be sand from my tank.... Funny I don't have sand in my tank. And of course opening the guard is customer damage to the blade. But... Since they are nice guys will give me $15 off on a new impeller so.... Only $34.95 plus $15.00 for GROUND shipping. I won't make this post any longer, but, I have 3 similar cases with Neptune from software upgrades to 90 day warranty probes that are never defective when you send them in the 1st time, but, somehow go defective after their crappy tech support screws around for 90 days.

My Gyre is going on a year in the tank with no cleaning and nice coralline growth on it, and my MP40s were cleaned once in two years (wet side). Apparently invisible sand only impacts WAVs as I explained this to deaf ears at Neptune. So unless you have no fish, no corals and perhaps no water in your tank, I would recommend against WAVs as they are too delicately tuned to work in a harsh environment for two weeks at a time.

Sorry for the rant, but I plan to save as many people the $499 and frustration as I can. Feel free to PM me, happy to share the case notes.

Got a call from a "supervisor" at my request. Supervisor said he doesn't make warranty decisions and is sorry to hear I have had bad experiences with Neptune and he will take my concerns to his management team next week. I asked how he can be a supervisor if he doesn't make decisions, after a bit of silence, back to the same I'm sorry (I'm going to do nothing but keep feeding words till you go away), but, he doesn't make the decisions. I asked him to have someone call me who does make the decisions, as it's not fair for them to hide behind him, no commitment on his part to get a decision maker to call the customer.

I don't get it, every other company in this hobby I have called or emailed goes over the top and usually provides unexpectedly great service, replaces parts, I would expect and even offer to pay for. I'm just totally confused about the Neptune attitude, they make a very good controller with very flexible software, but, simply horrible customer last service.
