Gunna be redoing my 55gal and im planning to put a 29gal sump in but i have no idea what size overflow box or plumbing to use. I wanna use flex, and im also not sure what size pump to use. This will be my first setup with a sump involved and i wanna get it right. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Garrett

You are in the right place for help ;)

I'm sure others will chime in also..

Is this tank empty or will be? Most of us prefer to have our tanks drilled vs using an HOB.. Most of the time its cheaper this way...

I can totally drill it if i want to bit its full at the moment and u dont want to take any chances of cracking it

+1 Glassholes.com thats where ive gotten my overflow boxes, then just match a return pump (after head loss), ball valves help to finetoon :)

1 inch drain and 1/2 or 3/4 inch return is kinda the industry standard.
drilling the tank is definately best, if not get an overflow box that uses a u tube and make sure you have enough flow to keep bubbles from building up in it.
something like a mag7 or equivalent pump would be ideal for this setup.
The kit referenced above is nice, but a pvc elbow , bulkhead, and a hole work pretty well and cost a little less if your on a budget.
the drill bits are at most of the sponsors,

Since your new to the hobby, drilling probably seems risky, a few years into the hobby you will probably think the external overflows are way riskier....odds of bubbles, algae, or snails clogging up the external are higher than breaking a tank when drilling IMO

Well ive been in the hobby fir awhile now i just cant drill it becuase its not my tank to drill. Im building thus for my aunt, her tank got really bad so im revamping it for her. I told her drilling was better and cheaper but she doesnt want to drill it so overflow is my only option.

Im leaning towards an Eshopps overflow. But idk if the PF-300 that they recommend for a 30-75 gallon tank will be enough.
