what the purpose for ramping leds?

rampable leds that auto brighten and the auto dim ... whats the purpose for this ... does it make corals better...or is it just for show? like the lichtning setting on some controllers?
 
It is more natural, however, whether or not corals react better I think is debatable. I've never had ramping and had great growth, but I'm also not into crazy lighting stuff. I just want looks and power. The extras were never a priority for me.
 
Lightning effects are actually useful for stimulating spawning in some species of fish.... So, not useful for the majority of us... But for certain breeders it can be useful.

As for the ramp up.... It's just to try and simulate nature more. Is this "better"? Depends on what you want to do. To make an analogy, think of chicken eggs, and the egg farm vs. true free range chicken eggs. Depending on what you want, either method of keeping chickens could be seen as "better". More volume? Go for an egg farm that simulates highly sped up day/night cycles. More "natural" where you don't have to supplement the chickens with hormones in order to produce eggs with normal orange/yellow yolks? Go for outdoors, natural free range farming....

In short, it's personal choice. :)
