Hey all just found these on ebay and wanted opinions. I know they arent high quality top dollar lights or anything but all I have is a fish only tank (210g) and wanted to know if these would look ok or hurt anything being a grow light? I mean they are pretty cheap so thought about maybe giving them a try... IDK ??? PLease give me all feedbacks, negative and positive.

On mikes fish only tank u shouldn't need any high power lighting ... On a fish only tank you are basically going for color ... Correct me if I'm wrong but thats my understanding ... If u ever plan on keeping coral then yes get the 3w LEDs and save yourself the money in the long run

No matter what you do with LED, fish still look like poo under royal blue only. You may be better buying some cheap t5 fixtures, and getting a few different color bulbs to play with and get a good color out of your fish and grow coralline if you are using liverock for filtration.

idk about 10k, but under only my blue LED's, it lacks color... my yellow tang looks orangish/brown. my melenarus looks like it's only got one color and the stripes, etc

I already have T5 fixtures at the moment. But am getting green algae under those. I think they are too powerful for my setup. They are high output, I run 2 white and 2 blue all 54 watts. And I know its the llghts causing the green algae because for the last month I only turned one side of the tank lights on and thats the side with the green algae right now. Its not slimy or anything its hairy and my fish eat it but looks kinda like crap after a while and a pain in my butt to clean off of all the rocks.

to powerful of lights don't cause algae problems... usually high nitrates or phosphates... or i think most of us reef keepers would have algae... How old are your bulbs? the only time i get algae is if my bulbs get old

yea... idk, i have minimal cuc in my tank and no algae problems. I think Fish only tanks are usually prone to high nitrates. Do you run carbon or GFO?

I actually bought new bulbs a few months ago, but havent tested water in a while either because all my fish are looking really good and actively swimming. I probably should get my test kit back from my neighbor and test very soon.

No carbon or gfo, but I do run a UV. Water is crystal clear just have some green algae brewing, and its only under the lights.

yea, u need to test the water i think for phosphates and nitrates... Algae needs light to grow... so naturally, it would only be under the lights ;)

Hey Mike,
There's a new shop in Channahon just behind the feed loft off of rt. 6
The owner Tom is a really nice guy and usually in after 2. I'm sure he can help you get that algae under control (Bring him a pic).
As far is the led'z I don't really know much about them ether. But, I did try these ones just to see how they look and what not.
I use the magenta's with my T-5, Daytime & for night time viewing (Keeping lps, softies and fish).

Thanks Billy, Tom has been to my house plenty of times and seen my setup. Hes actually a good friend. At first he told me to get new bulbs then he said phosphates are probably high. Thank you for your input :) Are those the same led strips that Tom has above his middle display tanks??

Yes, I'm using two strips on one power cord supply.
One 4' strip and a 12" for nighttime.
The 4' magenta is set up to come on just before my actinic lights.
Extending the whole sunrise affect.
They're cheap enough just to get your feet wet and figure out if you like them (That's what I did).
One good thing with the strips is you can continue to add more light or different color slowly over time making it more affordable.
I would think the strips would be good for your fish only set up.
I really like them!
