I am interested in some of the wrasses and have some questions. The flasher wrasses; is it recommed to have three as opposed to one? how big of a tank is required for three flasher wrasses, one male two females? Both the Melanarus wrasse and the yellow coris wrasse i like but one site says the are reef safe and one says they are for fish only tanks. Whats the deal with that? Also it says they both require 50 gallon tanks, i have a 3' 65gal is this suitable for these species or would you recommend a 4' tank? Thank you in advance.

The ycw would do fine in your 65, and is essentially harmless, but they bury in the sand, and with the eggcrate it may injure itself. The melanarus wrasse I think would eventually outgrow the 65.

I have continued to research melanarus and coris wrasses and am even more confused. One site says they attack shrimp one says they attack clams one says they will attack invert in your tank shrimp snails hermits clams and a couple sites say they are 100% reef and invert safe. Can someone please help me make some sense of all this??

I will investigate this further. BTW you soooo should change your signature. :-)

LOL! I haven't had a computer since the weekend I brought home the 180! I've lived a month of my online life off my phone... Hopefully this week/end I'll have it back up and running.

Ughhh I just want an active free swimming fish with vibrant color. I want to use all of this extra space I am going to have.

I have a re coris wrasse beautiful colors for sale, but it will eat inverts.
Youre confusing yourself reading too many sites. All the reef and non-reef safe wrasses are separated in liveaquaria.com U should pick one trusted site to get info. In the end every fish is an individual and some reef safe fishes will not be reef safe and vice versa

Thanks for the insight Cola. And would we agree that live aquaria is probably the most trusted source? If so I'm back to the drawing board I like the fairy and flasher wrasses but only as a trio and I am unsure my 65 is suitable to house a trio. The other wrasses I like are listed as non-reefsafe. So here is what I am looking for I want a colorful active free swimming fish that will be added second or third to last with the flame angel being last and the purple pseudo being second or third to last also. Any ideas?

Have considered this idea but I have learned that a school of chromis usually becomes one or two in time.

true dat!

Go with some fairly wrasses, doesn't need to be a trio of one kind. I have a yellow fin and a solon (clown/solar), but the solon might get too big for your tank. Also, any of the flashers will work too. I've heard mixed on yellow/green coris, but they are likely the most safe, versus the tru coris wrasses which are mostly not reef safe.

I will look more into the fairy and flashers. It just seems to me they do best with one male and two or more females coloration is better they are less stressed and happier at least this is what my research has lead me to believe. But I will consider perhaps a single specimen. Sucks though I really like Melanarus wrasses. Ah well another time maybe a different project. Is there maybe a different family of fish I am missing that I should look into?

I see radiant wrasses in reef tanks a lot.

my red sea blue cleaner wrasse developed a taste for acro's and acans. It was banished. Too bad because it was a beautiful blue.
