Zoa Bottom, LF opinions

I finished my bare bottom tank project, now I was thinking of letting zoas grow out on the bottom to look like a zoa bottom tank. I know eventually they will start creeping up on the sides of the tank as well. Anyone with experience with that and will they be a pain in the butt to controll. I have an acrylic tank, so I probably don't want to be scraping zoas from the walls, but I think I can cut and scrape them from the bottom of the tank before they get to the walls as well.
what do you guys think?
 
It is cool idea,I was going to do this in my tank,I have BB but decided against it, just because I don't want to deal with any scraping later.I was afraid they might release some toxins when damaged during scraping.I just let coraline algae take over my BB.
 
You could do this no problem. For scraping, you could use a plastic scraper. Then, not worries about scratching the tank. I'd love to see it!

interesting plan... i was gonna do this on the back wall for the 20L i'll be starting up... i've never seen that done before...

think i'd have problems eventually with them just starting to go up my rockwork?

Possibly, but heck, if you are willing to let GSP carpet the bottom of your tank, are you really worried about a little encroachment on your rocks?

haha... but the idea of GSP only on the bottom of my tank intrigues me... not so much they get up on the rocks and eventually take everything over...
 
Easy fix, suspend the base layer of rocks like an inch or so off the bottom with clear acrylic rods epoxied to them like table legs.
 
My lfs dis this with palys and looks pretty neat. Another one of my friends did the gsp but now wishes he didn't simply because it is not only taking over tank but growing on his other corals. Gotta say his gsp shaggy carpet is pretty sweet. Lol.
 
lunacris: that is the biggest fear if i decide on this... I may just have to just keep trimming if it gets to that point... Badgus gave my parents a piece of this GSP when i picked up 2 anemones from him... and it's by far the nicest i've seen. the polyps are nice and small but super florescent green... it's growing out nicely in my 75.
