Ive read that a tank must be acclimated to low po4 levels. I started with a teaspoon of gfo and you only have maybe 15-20 more gallons than me. How much did you use?

Yeah...I think I use 1/2 cup of gfo. But I've been running this amount for about 2-3 months now, and I feed my tank well. I also still have bryopsis in my fuge and a patch in the back of the tank, so I don't think my po4 is totally stripped. Thanks for the link bro.

I also just checked my levels and the only thing that's off is my alk. Usually I try to keep it around 8dKh but it's at 9 this morning. So it's kinds elevated to me, mixed with a high temp of 81*, and probably a low nutrient system. But the green birdsnest is the ONLY coral affected. Everything else looks normal. Oh well, at least I fragged a small piece of it, hopefully the frag survives. 80% of the colony was bone white this morning when I woke up.

Hey Smitty i don't think alk being at 9 is a problem. What I do see being a problem is the high temperature. Thinking about it, a year ago I had a similar problem My temperature rose to about 82 -83 and a couple of my corals died on me but everything else was okay. When you checked your temperature, were your lights off? If so when your lights go on your tank might even get hotter.

Thanks Steve...I have leads suspended about 3ft from my tank, so no heat from them, and the temp had been stable at 81.5*. I honestly think and hope that it was just a fluke with the bn. I'll keep my eyes on everything more closely for a few days. Thanks for the advice bro.

81 is a good temp as long as its constant. In your case im sure it is. Alk could have rocketed higher when the BN first started to RTN. It could have leveled out. It may have been from GFO or something else. Honestly, if your acros and other SPS are lookin good I wouldn't worry. Ive read that BN tend to die off as they mature anyways. Maybe something triggers it, but its a BN. It will be grown out in no time. good luck Smitty.

BTW.. im loving that new Wrasse.

No, I'm not a communist..
Don't birdsnest sometimes die off once they get to a certain size? I've heard of colonies just collapsing for no reason.
Heard the same thing.

Smitty, I have a large colony of pink/yellow/green birdnest that I can break you off a chunk if this one doesn't make it.

Well, the birdsnest didn't make it, neither did the frags I made from it. But here's a quick pic of what it looks like now.
