I see lately more and more people trying to keep this beautiful fish and for some reason the fish end up dying for no apparent reason.I wanted to keep one too,but after doing some research,I found out that this is really cool water fish and not tropical,so it will not live long in typical reef aquarium, when the temperature is a high 70 degrees. Here is a great article,a must read if you want to keep Blue Spotted Jawfish long term.

wow....I always saw my self adding one to my 90G. But considering the average temp is usually about 80 in it then I'll probably have to scratch it off the list.

i also read that article, but i also found a lot more stating 74-82 deg. i know its an expensive fish, but is it worth the risk...it is also atop my list for my soon to be 90gal reef. can anybody else weigh in on this? also is it important to have a deep sand bed. i was only going to have 2"?

I am setting up my biocube 29 for this guy. I have read a lot of different articles about the min required sand bed is about 3". I have 4" and crushed coral. Didn't know about the lower temps though, have to look into this.

I have been keeping my blue spot jawfish for 4 months now. I lost one before him because there was a little gap on my tank and he found his way out. So I made sure my tank is completely sealed and no gaps or holes.

I have about 6 inches sandbed and he seems to be very happy. Digging new holes and change his spot or territory once a while. I have been feeding him mysis and brine shrimp. He seems to be pretty good at eating.

my temp is 76 to 78. Since I have many acros and I have been keeping my tank on a cooler side.

I really can't wait to get a Jawfish as well but I want to make sure everything is ready. MCF has a few and they look spectacular!

Did a search and found this post on the BSJ. Mark thanks for sharing. I guess I should scratch this amazing little fish off the list due to requirements.

That explains a lot ive had five of these guys all ate good lasted about six months then dead everyone I had sane results so I stop buying and my temp at 78. So that can definitely ecplain deayhs out of no where
