Smitty's 37gal reef

I broke 84 a couple days ago when the a/c wasn't on. Caught me off guard. Been thining about a chiller too.

Yeah bro, that would have scared me...And just imagine, we haven't even hit the summer temps yet. So I had to invest in one, especially since my tank is small.

I hear you bro, I didn't want to learn that the hard way.

I learned the hard way. We go fishing every weekebd akmost in summer. We have a pkace ob lake wisconson. Any way was suposse to be mild weekend so we keft ac off ended up being hottest weekend of the year. My reef had chiller but my now fowlr before fairy wrasse heaven didnt lost ten of my babies . Wasnt hard to talk wife into a second chiller the next day.

Wow, that hurts.

Small tanks must really have heat issues.

Martini and Rossi Asti Spumante

It's not that they really have heat issues, but since the water volumes are smaller, the water parameters( temp, nitrates, phos, alk, cal, etc) are much harder to keep stable... And heat is one of the main ones that fluctuates the quickest.

I've been having issues with my tank lately...I've been wondering where all this algae and cyno had come from, and ALL my inverts have died, so after doing my initial tests, my salinity was at 1.030! I been using a new bucket of reef crystals, with the same measurements as the last bucket(3 cups of salt per 5gal water of ro). My corals have been shriveled up and a few of my sps corals are bleaching. I've been doing water changes every 2-3 days to remove whatever nitrates and phosphates from all of the die off and to lower the salinity. I've finally gotten it down to 1.026/35 ppt. If it ain't one thing, it's another in this hobby.

That's odd, when i was using rc i was at 2.5 cups per 5g. I switched to salinity and I'm at 1.5-1.75 cups.

Always check fresh sw before adding to tank!

dang that sucks I use rc too

Yeah, when I was using the first bucket,I used 2.5 cups, but it came out to a low salinity level. To bring it to 1.025-26, I had to use 3 cups...now the new bucket seems to come out too high when I use 3 cups, so now I'm back down to using 2.5 cups.

I'm considering aquavitro salinity...I've heard good things about it. I don't mind the price, as long as it gives me good cal and alk levels.

I used coralife salt because it was highly recommended by several reefers with amazing tanks. DFS has it on sale from time to time and with free shipping you can't come close to the price. I did however pick up a few boxes of RC because I got it on sale, so I will be keeping an eye on the mixture now. Let me know if you need help replacing any corals if they don't make it.

Yeah, it does. I've read too many horror stories with rc, but figured I'd try it anyway. I'm definitely switching salts after this bucket.

lol im cheap so im sticking with it been using for years I just check before I dump . if u need some sticks swing on by I will give u what ever u want u always helping people on here. just let me know buddy

Thanks Joe. :)

I use Salinity too. Parameters stay pretty stable from each batch I make up. 2 cups for each 5 gallon bucket gets me to 1.026 every time

That's good to know...what are the alk and cal levels of a new batch, if you know? Thanks :)
