Biopellet ?

Vinegar is the best way. cheaper and more controlled. i got a vinegar dosed tank and a biopellet tank. after i run out of pellets ill switch to vinegar and a doser.

you need to be 7.5- 8 dkh or your sps will have issues. my alk went to 11 once and it killed 3/4 of my sps, mostly the best sps.

sawdonkey - how much kalk do you use? the nice thing about kalk is you can add vinegar to it and it will be your carbon source. no need for pellets or separate vinegar dosing. i used to do that but since i stopped kalking i began using a doser with 2 part and vinegar.

Thanks. I tried vinegar for a while and the cyano went insane. I couldn't take it. When I switched to pellets, I got some mild cyano but not a trace of it for a while. So far everything seems good with the pellets. I'm getting good growth and corals look good. Having alk of 9.5 scares me though.

The pellets are mostly to deal with the nitrates created by my large and messy fish that are fed well. I just mix up Pickling lime in my 5 gal top-off. I probably refill it twice per week. I don't even measure the amount of pickling lime I put in because it reaches a saturation point a and precipitates anyway, right?
