I just picked up my elos 160 which is 63x23x23 it came with the elos planet II fixture which is 38" and has 2x250 MH and also 4x39 T5, I was thinking of either using the light or going with a ATI 48" 8 bulb fixture or even going with the ATI 60" 8 bulb fixture. Tank will only be SPS. I would opinion on which light you would go with and why. No LEDS please

ATI 8 bulb for sure. I know you said no LED, but if you're willing to shell out the $$ the ATI T5/LED hybrids are very nice. The LED gets you the shimmer/color pop while the T5 gives you the spread and penetration.

ATI 48" 8 bulb all the way!!! But the Giesemann INFINITI Series Metal Halide 150W / T5 Fixtures look sweet also..

I had the giesemann spectra and loved it just got rid of it since I was thinking of using the elos planet ii but feel as if the fixture is way to short for good spread. So the 48" over the 60"

I would go with 8 bulb T5. I believe Greg is still trying to sell his on craigslist for $350, it's only a few months old. it's been for sale for awhile, maybe haggle with him :)

You will only be short 6" on each side, which IMO is nothing!! I'm sure your main coverage will be within the 48" area and this will be hanging high 10-15" off water (maybe).. Plus this will help to have low light corals on the edges as the ATI fixtures are no joke!! They will cook some corals fast and make them turn white.. Seen it done!!

If you are planning to go 100% SPS, I would go with a 5ft fixture. Their stock fixture is very nice but not enough coverage on the edges. Softies/LPS would do fine there though. You may be able to get away with a 6 bulb fixture depending on your aquascape coral placement as well. I have always been a big fan of the ATI fixtures and you can usually find a used one for a bargain these days.
