Thoughts of having sand or bare bottom refugium

About to set up my new sump and been debating to add a sand bed or not. There's seems to be a lot of people saying to go without sand and I've always used sand so curious now why some say its "better" without. Want to know what my local aquariest think about this.

One thing that I've noticed is that sandbeds are detritus magnets. If you don't keep up with it, sooner or later it will turn into a nitrate factor.

Ive had sand and the same sand for ten yrs no issues i dont think a reef looks right with out sand looks like a frag tank again jmo this is one of those topics that some love sand some hate sand no wrong or right answer . U can run a suscessful reef either way

I'm talking about sand in the Refugium not the DT.

Sand in the refugium has similar pros and cons as in the DT. If you want a true refugium to provide a place for pods and such to grow without predators, go without sand. You'd need a CUC to keep a sandbed clean and the CUC will eat some of the pods.

i would use a small amount of crushed coral and miracle mud in a shallow tray next to it helps yr pods breed. I can sell you a fuge starter pack to get you going. look up my refugium packs page.
