Yea very old post i figured out the issue and took that tank down and built a 180g 6ft using live sand and issues went away . I do wish u luck with your tank

Never really got gha i was fighting red slime and yea the dry sand caused the issues

Interesting because I have somewhat the same issue...let's see after I add biopellets if things change

If its dry sand and newish just add a big bottle dr tims and wait it out the bio pellets didnt do chit for me
