Sump Help with ATO

So I recently got a HOB overflow box so I can use on my 28 Gallon Tank for a sump. So I know that I can make holes on the return line above my waterline so I can stop the siphon whenever theres a power outage or something. What if the siphon stops and your return pump just keeps on pumping? Your tank is going to overflow. Is there anyway that I can prevent that from happening? Can I use an ATO so that when my water reaches I certain level in my tank that it will turn off the return pump? Any tips on how to set it up would be great.
