ACAN Help!?!

I've noticed a drastic change in only my Acans, long story short they've been receded for a long time over a month now. Recently i bought two new Acan frags from a LFS and tts been day two for the new frags and still in recession, why is that? All other corals doing just fine! Can someone shed some light?


Livestock:
Filefish, sixline wrasse currently

Light schedule:
Currently have AI prime: 8 hr period mostly 20k lighting 6 hrs and blues to end the night

29 gal biocube

*Most importantly, my tank "crashed" and all my fishes died ("while i was on vacation in August") and i've been battling algae since then.
Currently i have bubble green algae, brown (mostly) and red slimy algae and green hairy algae.


Just checked my parameters
Salinity: ~1.026
ALK: 8.4
Phosphate: 0.25ppm (always been like this)
Ca: 480
Mag: 1440
pH:8.0
Ammonia-0
Nitrate and Nitrite-0

Any advice, help or suggestions is much appreciated.

Need nitrates as well.


Your file fish could be eating them as well.

Well they aren't reef safe so now that the aptasia are gone he could be going after your corals

Hi Zen, I was in a very similar cituation recently. I was waging a full on war with Diatoms, Cyano, and Green Hair algae I was at the point of restarting the whole tank.

These are the steps that I took to getbthings under control. Once the brown algae and cyano started to over run the tank, all the coral seemed like it was suffocating. The acans specially looked like they where dying,?they where the ones that were affected the most.

So get your tooth brush and turkey baster out your gonna need them.
Other tools you will need are a Filter sock, a small pump with a plastic tube attached.

Step#1
I placed the filter sock in the first compartment of the filtration. Placed the pump in the display tank with the tube running into the sock. With the pump running I started blasting all the rock with turkey baster, it’s going to create a mess but all that crap will get sucked up by the pump and into the sock. The debry should stay suspended in the water for as long as possible in order for the pump to take it out.

Step #2
Once the water cleared up I started scrubbing the rock with the tooth brush. If there is any large patches of cyano ry to remove it manually.

Step #3
Go over all the rock and corners of the tank and use the turkey baster to agitate the water and get the debry moving again.

Step #4
I did a 30% water change.

Two days later, I redid The first 3 steps. I did these 3 steps every two days until it was time for a water change again.
I also turned up the flow on the power head and I cut back on feeding.

This got my tank back on track after about 2 weeks of this routine.

Now my tank is 99% free of all that mess. All my coral is coming back around looking plump and full of life. I also added 4 turbo snails after the two weeks of scrubbing.
Hopefully this will help with your algae issues, but you know how this hobby goes some times what works for some don’t work for others.
