gel like substance around dead fish

Hi,
today i came home and my flashing tile fish was dead.(just got him less than a week ago) so, when i pulled him out he was covered in the handful of gel-type stuff. does anyone know what it is or what it could have been?

yeah he was awesome for the week i had him. He was hiding a lot though. That seems really pricey. I suppose it depends on where your shopping.

Prob just a regular tilefish. The "gel" was the fish's slime coat.

does a regular one flash to different colors? because mine did..
