So just downsized my mantis as im getting ready to move into my apartment in a month and a half.

Id like to be able and grow or keep some zoos and lps or ust do one or the other.

Any opinions on something like http://www.aquatraders.com/20-inch-4x18W-T5-Aquarium-Light-Fixture-p/52302.htm versus a par 30/ or par 38 bulb hanging overhead?
Ive had this t5 fixture before and was quite happy with it especially for its price point, but i might be able to get a used par 3 and 38 bulb from a dude on the marketplace.

opinions?

I like LEDs bc of the low wattage use and there's no need to change the blues out every year. A Par38 would be enough for a 10g; I'm not sure about a Par 30. I use 38s with 90 optics and is good for a 18" atea.

I would stay with t-5, but if interested in Par38 then I would go with that. Whatever you think would be the cheaper option for you. If it was me I might just go with T-5, IMO

All depends on what you want to keep. I kept what was essentially a narrow 10g and needed 2x par30 and 2x Ecoxotic stunner strips to really get perfect coverage everywhere and keep the SPS happy. On the other hand that was WAY too much lighting for zoas/palys.

I would go with the t5 fixture and bulbs from UVL (the 18" can be hard to find but they are out there).

I would go with par 38's 6"-10" of the tank will give you enough light to keep a mix reef. I own par 38's with 3 ROYAL 2 6500 WHITE and it looks like a 20k temp bulb. T5 are cool but I like the shimmer on my tanks. By the way, I just saw Ted's new T5 over his tank and it looks awesome!
