So here we go. I'm building my 40 breeder tank and I hope I can journal my whole experience here.
The precept was simple, a 40 gallon mixed reef.
Here is what I plan to do;
Bought drilled rimless 40b with beautiful stand and light enclosure from CR. Had to drill 1.5" for new glass holes overflow. Drilled a other hole for additional return.
Plumbing all returns in 1" pvc with clear flap check valve, universal unions and a t to a pvc manifold that has 4 3/8 barb outlets. Return control is done by 1 gate valve for each return.
The pump selected is a Diablo 3500 dc pump. The skimmer is a reef octopus 110. The sump is a custom work of art by Bill Lutman. A 15x15x26 with fuge, sock and baffles
The light will be an aqua medic 250 mh hqi, 14k Phoenix supplemented by LEDs controlled by typhoon led controller. The whole system will have a brs gfo/carbon reactor and will be controlled by a reef angel system with temp, salinity, and ph probes via wireless connection
The substrate is reef flakes (60 lbs) and 50lbs of Marco rock. Using a 200 watt heater and no planned cooling yet.
Please poke holes in my setup as I welcome room for improvement. Will start posting pics of the work during the weekend.
