75Gal: Mp40 Placement questions...

keep it clean man, take it all apart n let it sit in straight vinegar overnight. i do this about once a month, but i do get lazy. which is usually when bad things happen. ive got that kit as well, im not sure if the bearing is in there tho. im looking at mine now and i dont see 1 in there, but maybe im crazy.

hmm... you're right. I guess i'm just gonna pick up that maintenence kit and then the ceramic bearing as well. That's still only 35 bucks and that's pretty much replacing everything that spins in the wetside. the cage and everything looks fine to me. The impeller assembly just has slop...

ive had 4 wetside and theyre all different. i think it has alot to do with how its put back together obviously lul. there is this lil nut you tighten, and who knows the torque specs on this thing? before you buy anything. take it apart n put it back together. watch the vids on youtube.

Lol, well it's installed and on Reef crest mode... the motor i think is louder more than anything... sometimes there is like a bad bearing squeel, but other than that... it's the motor that sounds loud...

Eric, if you want to bring it by this evening, we can tear it down real quick and put you together a list of rebuild parts needed to overhaul it. I've had several of these apart before when buying used to look for any parts that need replacing.

hmm, i may have to take u up on that sometime when I'm free george... Sorry i haven't gotten back to you on that nem either... been really busy with work and summer school as well...

Basically, the only thing i can hear that's wrong with it is that it's makes the squeeling sound from time to time. I'm pretty sure it's the wetside bearing. Rest is just motor noise. I don't see any vibrations or anything when the pump is running and not squeeling. It seems to only squeel at certain speeds

make sure it is aligned right, it can be a pain. turn the speed all the way up then align it. slowly go down in power to make sure its quiet. to make sure it isnt the motor you can run the motor without the wetside attached.

Yea, i'm pretty sure the dryside is fine... I think the wetside has too much slop for something spinning.

And the mp40 really isn't making waves I had imagined... Maybe i need 2 or something, i can see there's strong flow in the water column, but i'm not seeing any waves on the surface

oh, haha. I"m new to all this... most of my coral are still pissed off... I saw some better Polyp extension on my green slimer but now it seems to be gone again... my nems and frogspawn are still pissed too.

Haha, I'll keep it in reef crest for now and see after a few days... I was starting to look into a tunze wavebox before i got the good deal on this mp40. The motor noise is so loud on it... my koralias were much quieter... So idk if i'm diggin the vortech craze right now.

Eric, I have tons of those plastic zip tie tethers. The same ones ecotech sells. You can have a few for free. They are like $10 for 100 at Menards!

The 40 has the shims built into the pin spacer piece on the dry side. You aligh the glass thickness index up with the power cord and press the pin spacer back in place. Also always use the rubber disc as well or the motor will walk around on the glass from the vibrations.

maybe that's the issue with the motor noise... i don't have that rubber pad on the glass and the dryside... that's in my cart from ecotech... that might make the motor noise louder without it.
