Adding fans to cool off stand/ sump area

Hi Guys and Gals!

I want to add some fans in order to cool off some of the heat that is being produced in my stand from various pumps (reeflo hammerhead). I would like to try and lower the temp by 10 - 15 degrees by adding some 120 MM fans or if you have a better option please share. I have plenty of room for mounting fans on the back wall of the stand which is 1/2" marine plywood.

Also I want something that I can just have plugged in all the time... no thermostat or anything like that. I would also like for the fans to be as quiet as possible.

Thanks.

That might be a bit overkill! I was thinking 4 inlets and 4 exhaust? What do you think?

I buy a case of cheap 6" clip-ons from Amazon every year.
Jeni, I've done the clip on white 8" or 6" fans before and they work great. My problem is that the back of the stand in now enclosed and I have restricted airflow hence the build up of heat. I'm going to have to cut out probably 2 registers and then 2 exhaust ducts to exchange the air within the stand.

Has anyone done this before?

You talking about something like this?

The fans are 12v, if you wanted you can use a fan controller for P/Cs and dial in the speeds. I use one on my LEDs so I can control fan speed and set them where I want them. Essentially you would only need intake fans to force the air in the create a positive PSI in the case. Then install the vents where you want them for the outlets and no fan needed. Id place the fans low and the outlets high, as you know heat rises so Id take advantage of that.

I really like that idea, but what is powering the fans? I still needs a 110 regular plug somewhere.

just get an ice machine and have it on a timer to automatically drop a couple ice cubes in the sump every couple hours, IM KIDDING!

If i were you, i would use your uncles saw to cut 2 holes on the bottom towards each side of the back. and 2 on top. THen screw the fans so the blades match the holes and use the top ones for exhaust and bottom ones for intake.

These are the power supplies for the fan kits, although they will work for any 12v fan. Many options on there its all in what you want to do and how "snazzy" you want to get with controllers. If it were me, I would get the one that you could set the "on" and "off" temperature. Have it come on a few degrees above or at your tank temperature VS running all the time.

The thing about them is you can use ANY P/C fan you want.

If you notice too the link Badgus posted is to the same place (Coolerguys) I directed you too, but at the bottom of the page:

They are about the best I have found AFA pricing and shipping for this stuff. There are similar places out there but the pricing is usually higher from what I have found. IE: Newegg, Tiger Direct or Micro Center. Although with you being in the area of Tiger or Micro, you could always drive there and pick it up to save shipping.
