adding live rock to established reef aquarium?

I have about 50 lb of live rock in my 58 gal reef aquarium. is it ok to add 25-30 lb of mature live rock from another tank into my existing aquarium? what if the rock being added was not cured?

I think I'm confused. You have 50 lbs of cured rock in your 58 and want to add another 25-30 lbs from an existing tank, which is also cured? Or you are not sure that it is cured? If you are unsure, I wouldn't do it. Hell I probably wouldn't do it if it was cured, hitch hikers suck. Unless you know the system was clean of any baddies.

agreed. it completely depends on the other tank. cured=assured of no hitchhikers (that's how I understand it anyway). If it was my own tank that it came from i'd do it slowly to avoid a mini cycle from turning rocks over and switching the anaerobic/aerobic sides. I think a little die off is probably unavoidable, but would be easily cycled.

I always just assumed cured was = dead **** gone, so no ammonia spike... pretty sure you can still get baddies on cured rock ;) But, who knows lol.

thanks for the replies. the rock I am adding is coming from an established reef system so as long as I am not worried about hitchhikers, it should be fine to add all the LR at once right?
