Algae Issues - Phosphate Problems?

Hi All,

I've been acclimating a decent amount of green algae on my rock, walls and substrate. After double checking all of the water parameters I can test for (pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Alkalinity and Calcium), starting a 20% weekly water change (two weeks completed), and reading online –*I'm beginning to think that I may have too many phosphates in my aquarium. I'm unable to test for them so I was curious if others had any thoughts. I have a place that I can add filter media to my tank and can give any other details once requested!

Thoughts?

I was having the same problem in my big tank and then I added a mesh media bag of Phosban rust in my sump and problem solved, the algae was gone in about a week. Old Town Aquarium told me to buy a phosphate reactor and put the rust in it but I didn't feel like paying almost $100 for it so I just tried putting the rust in a media bag in my sump to see if it worked and it did. Phosphates are still slightly high but the algae and cynobacteria are gone.
