Amino acids for acros?

So Eric (Poidog) had mentioned something along the lines of dosing amino acids for acros as opposed to, or if carbon dosing. As that was on Bretz thread asking for help, I really didn't want to hijack the thread, but was curious about this idea.

Any particular amino acid, and dosing recommendations? I'll start doing my own searches p, but was curious who on here did something like this, and what their results / recommendations would be?

Not opposed to, when. When you have a ULNS you need to dose aminos to supplement for the nutrients you are stripping out of the water. Do a search, lots of info out there. There are several manufacturer, elos, zeovit, BW. They are highly concentrated and only 1 to a few drops a day works.

Awesome, thanks Eric! Was just curious, and I'll be starting my search this weekend, so soon I suppose I will have another dosing aspect :). Makes sense though, everything but my sps has responded well to carbon dosing, improving in color and seemingly in health. My sps though, looks the same, or for one piece, not so great actually...

i wouldnt call aminos dosing, its a feeding item typically unless its in a combined solution such as pohls which has some other trace elements mixed in.

my personal opinion is unless you are running zeolites or other ulns, amino feeding just = more phosphate and nitrate

I was dosing aminos when i ran biopellets and had an ulns. Now I don't run pellets anymore but kept dosing the aa's because I paid a lot of money for them and didn't want them to get wasted , LOL. Now my nitrates are a little high. SMDH !!

Hmm, so far I've just been feeding heavily - I may try the AAs.... I barely have anything in my tank - June 8th can't come soon enough, finally QT will be over!!

You might be looking for a solution for a problem you don't have. Just keep up with wc feeding a dosing all, Cal, mag and a lot off attention. Your coral will grow great.

I slowly backed off the carbon dosing for a while since i would forget some days and dont have an extra outlet for a doser. Plus i also didnt realize that with a low nutrient system, it is important to replenish those lost nutrients. So i started using reef chili and soaking it in Faura Marin S AA and feeding heavier.

Much of my sps has taken a turn for the worst. I got red bugs and STNing. i have a large skimmer, GFO, and A. Carbon, and Carbon dosing. I was feeding 3day but then switched jobs and feed 2 times. Then i sold my two largest tangs and lost two small anthias in the matter of 3 weeks. Therefore my water was now "super clean" and basically nutrient free. Dont mean to switch the subject to my problems but just wanted to tell a story about it. Hopefully now that im replenishing a bit more il start to see a comeback, otherwise, BYE SPS, HELLO SOFTIES.

Sorry to hear about that Brett! I hope it starts to recover for you!

And thanks Skunk, that's a very good point. At the moment I'll hold off, but I was quite curious about it in general - so should an issue come up, at least I will have more options!
