Title says it all...tank is 7 months old, cracked along the curve. Luckily my girlfriend was home and heard it and was able to call me at work for me to rush home. All live stock made it out and most of the water was collected into buckets so no damage to the hardwood floors. In the meantime Tank it easy has been awesome and taking in my refugee livestock! However JBJ was closed by the time I could call, and will be calling tomorrow. Pretty bummed about this and have a feeling they will tell me its out of warranty pound sand, and I don't know if I have it in me to spend ANOTHER $500+ to get a new tank and sand to get it up and running on sunday. So has anyone here had any experience with them replacing something outside of the warranty period?

Wow, sorry to hear but glad it's working out for you in the short term. Hopefully someone has had some good expereince with jbj covering a tank under warranty.

Not about the warranty part but I think jayjerk is selling a super cheap jbj tank

Unfortunately there is a whole thread on Reef central about those tanks cracking and poor customer setrvice from JBJ. Hopefully they will replace your tank as most warranties are for 12 months. You said your tank is 7 months. Also did you use their stand or no? If not you will have hard time to get them to do anything, as most aquarium warranty is void when not using their specific stands. Sorry to hear and good luck.

I used their stands, spoke with them on Friday and have submitted the claim, hopefully they will cover it.

I haven't dealt with this company before, but here is a technique you can try in case your claim is denied. I've had great success using it with many different companies (airlines, mobile service providers, rental cars, amusement parks, etc)

Write a letter (not email) and physically mail it to the highest up person you can find in the company, or their headquarters marked "attention VP Customer relations" or something like that. In the letter you explain the situation and mention how you are an active member in the reefing community, a member of several online forums, and have been a loyal customer for X years; you hope that you will be able to continue to buy their great products and spread them positive publicity by relating to the community how you were taken care of in this unfortunate situation. You want to be very cordial and not angry/threatening.

If your tank retails for 500, if probably wholesales for 400, and costs 200 to make (or less.) They get good public treatment and avoid bad by taking care of you. Get the letter in the right hands and you are golden.

Good luck!
