Anyone ever cut the center brace off a tank?

Anyone ever try replacing the center brace with clear acrylic to let more light in? How would u go about this process?
I have a 75 gal and thinking of cutting the center brace off.
 
This only works temporarily unless you are religious about keeping it clean. Sooner or later it just becomes a hassle to keep clean of salt creep and dirt etc... And it ends up no better than the brace it replaced.

+1 I have the old oceanic glass brace.. PITA!!!
