Automatic Top Off System-looking for ideas

Hi,

I have been researching automatic top off systems. I looked into the JBJ A.T.O.

I'm wondering what Chicago reefs users are doing for Automatic Top Off System do you use a store bought system or a DIY system?

Looking for DIY ideas.

Thanks

The JBJ ATO is a good product in my opinion. I have been using it in my 150 for about a year and a half with no complaints.

I did upgrade to an apex aquacontroller a while back, so I have been meaning to just buy some floats and let the apex do the ATO, at which time I will be selling my JBJ for a decent price in good condition.

Maybe I should hurry up and get on the conversion and sell you the JBJ?

I use a JBJ ATO on my nano.
I also use an osmolator in my bigger tank, which is supposed to be more error proof. I have the Tunze brand. Elos also has their own brand of osmolator.

Thanks to everyone, I will be looking into getting the JBJ Auto-top off.

jcarlilesiu if do sell your JBJ in the next couple of weeks I will buy it from you.

Thanks

I'm using one from autotopoff.com for almost 2 years and its working great. Got it for around $60 shipped back then for the two switch w/ aqualifter.

I hear good things about the JBJ also.

IMHO...spend a few extra bucks and get a controller, like the Reefkeeper. I almost bought the JBJ ATO but spent a few more bucks and get sooooo much more for the money.

My DIY consists of a 1 gallon drinking water jug, an aqualifter 20, a check valve and silicone tubing. Works great, 30 second every hour, pumps about 1/2 gallon a day, and I just fill the jug every other night before bed. Total cost : $14 or so.

My DIY is a aqualifter, 5 gal and a digital timer from HD.

I thought I was all set to get the JBJ ATO but now after doing some research I think the reefkeeper or a controller may be the best device for my money.

If I don't go with a controller. I will do one of the DIY ATO examples.

I now use an Apex controller to control my ATO.
WHen I started, I used to use the JBJ ATO. It was a good and reliable system for me.

i use a five gallon bucket above my sump with a drip approach hole drilled in bottom and air hose with air adjuster as the drip control works fine for me

I ran the JBJ for 2 years, flawless. selling mine now if you'd like a 11 Gal Garbage Can Resivoir with it too $70. pickup in Park Ridge near LSA. worked perfectly on my 28 Gal jbj nanocube. pm if you're interested. I am going with one of those Bukku Buck Dosers dripping kalk.

Following along on this thread was great. I too am looking into Ato options. I evaporate about a gallon of water a day. Right now I just do a couple dumps during the day. I am really wanting to do it some how where my rodi makes the water and it directly pumps to the tank, but that is so scary to think about. Just seems like a flood or salinity dilution waiting to happen. I am liking the 5 gallon with an auto lifter idea. More details on that would be great.
Not trying to hijack I promise :)
