betta fish noob

ok guys i got a 5g tank and heater that i want to give to my wife's 5th grade classroom with a betta fish. let me know what i need to keep this guy alive. i was going to buy some gravel and pre wash it and some plants. I have a small controllable heater and ill add a glass floating thermometer. I want the kids to check the temp everyday as a duty and feed it.

what kind of water is needed for a water change?

do i just get tap water or should i send RO/DI water with my wife for WC.

how often do i do WC?

Should i add a small aquaclear filter?

Drinking water in school is fine if they have them..I took 2 bettas to my office and change water every 2 weeks with drinking water in the office.
