So I just received mine yesterday, and was amazed by the directions of 1 tbsp per 10 gallons....Is this accurate? It will be in a media bag in the media basket of my NC 28, for the time being until I set up a reactor once the sump is set up. Obviously with the 10 second rinse time that they say I have no problem replacing as needed. How much does everyone else use?

I just fill the BRS cartridge halfway with Rox. Rinse til clear and run it for about 3-4 weeks. I just go by "smell" to know when it's time. This is on a 180g system, so I guess it comes out about 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons. One tip I found works well, let the carbon tumble ever so slightly (not a rolling boil like gfo) this will keep it from blinding up too early. The Rox is very durable and you will not have an issue with fines being released.

No test, I can tell when I get home from work if it's time to change out the carbon, it's fine for a while then one day, bam, time to replace it!

Wow so it seems the 1tbsp is about what everyone is running....all I can say is holy crap the stuff is cheap compared to what others tell you to use, and for the weight its the same price.

I have been using the Lignite. I take it the ROX is worth the extra money if you guys are all using it. I change mine with water changes so the dust is not that big of a deal but if it performs better and last longer I will try it next time. I am almost out anyways.

Lignite is supposed to be the best carbon for "bag" use, I don't believe Lignite is recommended for use in a reactor. Not sure how you are running your carbon, but if you use bags, stick with the lignite since the Rox wont be as efficient. Rox is a bituminous carbon and best suited for reactor use with very little tumble, or packed as a "block" of carbon between 2 pieces of filter foam. Seachem has a carbon available that is a ball shape, intended for both bag and reactor use, and can actually be tumbled a little more vigorous like GFO without worrying about breaking up fines into your water.

I LOVE ROX carbon. Recently just started running it in a TLF reactor. Water clarity is much improved.
Does how much carbon u run matter? I just followed the TLF instuctions and put in about 4" of carbon in the reactor

Yes, ROX is a very aggressive carbon and can strip too much out of the water if you run too much of it. I recommend BRS instructions for correct amount.

hmm... could this have anything to do with my zoas melting? Not enough nutrients in the water for them anymore? Idk, everything else is fine... Looks like i'll read the container and take out what I don't need. Only been running it in the reactor for about a week

Yes. It can also cause SPS (bleach, rtn, etc) and other coral to decline in health.

1tbs per 10 gallon seems alot. did you use the calculator they have in their website? I don't think I use that much in my 180.
The 1tbsp per 10 gallons was what the label on the container said, I figured the calculator just converted to different measurements and such.
