calcium reactor flow question

So I'm in the process of setting up a calcium reactor. I picked up a MRC Nano a while back and I'm finally getting it running. My question is, should the flow inside the reactor be up through the media, or should it be pushing down on it?

When I was using mine, I had the flow pull from the top, and out the bottom. As CO2 is Bubbled into the reactor, it collects at the top. So you want to pull from the top to send the co2 into the pump, churn it up good to help dissolve, and out the bottom. So easy terms, you want it flowing up through the media.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but on MRC'S site they show it set up as a down flow with a spray bar down the middle. Mine is annulled model with no spray bar.
