Canister filter?

Getting ready to set my 20 long running and one last thing I need to take care of is if I want to use my canister filter I have as another source of filtration, more mechanical than anything or keep it and use it as some kind of reactor. Anyone have any thoughts on it or have used a canister in their set up

Is stay away from sponges, if you want carbon, maybe some purigen I think you'll be fine. You can use floss for a bit if you want to polish the water. Most like with anything in this hobby need to maintain it

If you want to cycle the tank its not the water you need. You need either live rock, sand or some other biological filter to see it.

The water from an old tank will not be able to seed the tank.

If you're going that route you need to make sure to get the seeded material from a tank you trust

I setup my frag tank in a week using rock, sand and a biowheel soaked for a week from my display tank. Well I guess you can say two weeks since I seeded the biowheel for a week...lol

Someone here may be able to help you out or even a LFS you trust. I would offer but I had an ich outbreak about 3 weeks ago or so and am about to start to go 90 days with out fish in my Display tank while my fish sit in QT and get treated.

No reason to rush it.

If I was starting a new tank after the cycle I would seed it with pods after the cycle so by the time you add your fish you have a nice healthy system.

I have an extra diy rapid led available. This is the one above my frag tank. It needs a controller / dimmer and a power supply for the fan. I may have a simple controller kust need to see if it still works. I can let it go for $100View attachment 22477

Yes it will, that's a rainbow nem in the front and the rest are sps. What you've mentioned would be easy. Let me test it and make sure it would. I'll get back to you.

Only reason I have this is, I upgraded to two radion gen4 XR30 Pro
