Cleaning coraline on a bought tank...

So I just bought a 150 from a local reefer, and there is a whole crap ton of coraline all over the glass, and overflow. I can't just soak it in vinegar because A) sheer size of the tank, and it's in my basement right now...

The question is, I'm going to take some vinegar, and use a razor blade to get as much as I can off, but some of it will stay on, there's just no way around it. Is there any danger in having some of the left over coraline when I start up my tank? I was thinking, since it's been dry for several months, whatever it was, is now long dead... Eventually the tank will go back to the same look, so it's kind of inevitable..

Just wanted to get the communities thoughts.. Thanks!

Soak newspaper in vinegar and stick it to the glass and overflow. Leave it a couple hrs, and maybe saran wrap the top to keep it from drying quicker. Should help a ton :)
Congrats on the tank!

I would soak a sponge in vinegar and wipe the walls af ew times and let it sit between each application. You still might not get everything off but you should be able to get most of it. I don't think the leftover coralline would be a problem bc it's been dried for so long anyway.

If you spray vinegar on it it will peel off. I'd lay it on its back or side, so that whatever you spray can soak for a bit. After an hour or so it'll peel off just fine.

If you can't do that, dead coralline doesn't hurt anything. Its just white until new coralline can grow over it.

That's excellent news. I'll do that and see what I can get off.. Thanks everyone for the re-assurance!

I can't wait to get this 150 started.. need to silicon the baffles of my sump this week.
