Clown rode the drain pipe!

So my new inhabitants, a pair of clowns, were happily swimming in my tank last night. I woke up this morning and could only find one. I thought, "last night, they seemed happy and healthy, wonder why it would have died?" I searched the whole tank and found nothing. Something told me to check the sump. I took the filter sock out and removed from water to hear a recognizable sound, like a tail flapping out of water. I turned it upside down into my tank and sure enough, the missing clown swam out!

Now little clowny, swam to the bottom corner and was breathing somewhat heavy and labored. A frisky snail invaded his little area causing him to swim away and just before I left for work he was swimming around that area, but not straying too far from that bottom corner. What are the chances of this clowns survival? Opinions of course, past experiences with something similar?

My overflow is the glass-holes nano overflow box. I'm at work so I can't take a picture until tonight. I think they do make a lid for the overflow, but I'm not entirely exact on which nano kit I have, if there is a difference.

Yup, mine loved to ride the water slide all the time. Seemed like every mourning i would find them in the sump. So i made a mesh grill and zip-tied it to the overflow teeth. problem solved. He should be fine though, just needs to catch his breath

Gutter guard is your friend. Lost a hippo to mi drain and almost lost my clown to it. Added an acrylic top and mesh screen and no more problems

I had clown gobies, clownfish, and a flame angel all take a ride. I found out that two of my overflow teeth were broken and fixed it, lol.

All came back just fine for me. Unless it was already week, clowns are rather resilient.

I have a six line wrasse that really loved getting in my over flow box...He did it like five times. I've got an eggcrate cover over the drain now but when I first moved everything I think I had three different fish take a ride to the sump. I didn't run a sock setup just for that reason!

I devised this out of egg crate! Temporary until I get a good one from glass-holes or black egg crate!

Fliptail wrasse road down yesterday after being bullied by my neon blue damsel. Damsel got moved after I found the wrasse in the sock. Wrasse is doing fine.

The first time this happend to me I wondered if I had a jumper on my hands... I've had a skunk clown & a goby do it twice.

Always a relief either seeing them in the overflow box or the sump. Tricky surfers...
