Clown tang

I recently purchased a sustainably collected clown tang from South Asia. I would estimate him to be around 6 inches in length. He's got about 8 feet of swimming room long ways in my tank. It is only him and a houverns wrasse in the 350 gallon tank. Does anyone have experience with clown tangs or has one in there tank? I have done the research and have talked to knowledgable sources. I would just like first hand experience thanks.

ive had 2 both eating good and both didnt make it . plenty of flow open swimming space and just wethered away . not sure why beautiful fish tho ! good luck

Do you know what part of the world your clown tangs came from? I was told that the ones that wither away and die are from a different part of the pacific then the one I just got hence the high price tag on it compared to the other ones on the web

I have a 2 inch Clown Tang in my tank currently. Have had him a few months now, and eats great. He's grown alot in a few months honestly. This is the 3rd ive tried, and am finally successful. He is the smallest fish in the tank, and the biggest bully of them all. Sad to say, but he will probably be rehomed soon due to his aggression.

Ya my clown tang is about the same size as my houverns wrasse in that tank and he is no pushover hopefully they become friends they were following each other around the tank yesterday. Il update it tonight again after I watch them for a while today crossing my fingers

I had a clown tang several years ago, and kept him for almost 2 years. He was a LFS purchase, so I don't know his origin. He ate well, but was such a bully that he went back to the store. He followed my zoster butterfly constantly and nipped at his fins. Not very aggressive to him, but followed him everywhere. It drove me and the zoster nuts. I pulled him out and vowed to never get another.

Clown Tangs are definately beautiful fish, but their temperment makes them ugly. At 2 inches in size, I've never seen such an aggressive little guy, and will only get worse as he matures. Like i said, this is my 3rd attempt, as i really wanted to be successful, but i honestly should have given up after the 1st one. I wish you luck with yours.

He was eating nori and algea off the rocks along with some mysis today i think he will do good. Hopefully he and the wrasse wont fight they are buddies at the moment.

Some fish just doen't fare well in captivity, the stress makes them aggressive and prone to die without any disernable reason. It's a fish that's a challenge but some have good luck with one, I wouldn't take the gamble but good luck. Definate need a large tank even when they are small, again good luck.
