CMAS Swap Vendor Feedback

All in all, today ran incredibly smoothly. There were a few things, though, that I feel needed improvement, and I know that a few other vendors agreed.

Jason Fox, Wojtek, and I all agreed that the venue was a bit oversold; over 50% of the time, there were more vendors than buyers. As a first time vendor, that really hurt my sales (it took 5 hours to sell 5 frags at about $10...).

That being said, I think that it's also possible to bring in more people in the first place! I don't remember how it was done, but the advertising for MACI was excellent, as there were goo-gobs of people at every booth.

All in all, the swap was a fun time (save for my tank being passed without a glance) and I feel that management did a great job of running the swap. To those on the board and to the volunteers (save for George: it's my lobo!;) ), thank you for putting on such a seamless and fluid event. I can't wait to sell again in the future. :)

sorry ben i was being extra picky .. im saving for a tank upgrade... hopefully my tank will be up by next show and ill buy frags from ya .... :) of even between shows

I know that sucked for the sellers, but its great for buyers when there is alot of competition selling. Sounded like a buyers market and alot of people got great deals because of seller competition.

Problem with that though is from a sampling of 5 vendors that I talked to (real vendors not hobbyist/vendors) they spent more than they took in, you wonder if it will be worth it for them next time? I am interested to see if CMAS releases attendance numbers, or even if they have been kept swap to swap to see any trends. I did like the venue though and feel the raffle was run better than it had been in the past.

From talking with vendors thruout the entire swap day, it sounds like attendance has been down this entire season all over the place. And just about all of them said the same thing, best deals are at the beginning of the swap when you have the best selection. Only a very few started dropping prices or bundling at the end for a few last minute sales, most of them held firm on pricing from start to finish, they do 20+ shows a year, and blowing out their stock at 1 show doesn't make sense when they have another show in a week or two...

I will be happy to relay feedback from the vendors for all to see as I follow up with them over the next few days/weeks. As far as financials and attendance information, that stuff was handled by other people running the swap, but I don't see why they wouldn't provide numbers once they are made available.

I tend to think those "blow out" numbers at the end are numbers they would sell for if someone haggled with them or pushed back on price, but for those of us that hate to haggle it just makes it easier :)

I agree, sometimes there are gotta have it pieces I can't say no to and just pay the asking price, then there are pieces I like but don't absolutely have to get and ask if they can do any better, usually they will move a little on price to get the sale. You know they are still doing good on the sale or they wouldn't come down at all on it, so we both win. They certainly aren't going to drop prices to the point they are just giving the stuff away thou...

I came home with tons of stuff and I spent around $150. I was real happy with the swap. Then again, it was my first but it was just as I expected. I was happy with it and the best part, my wife loved it too. She put her hands in the take helping me scape for the first time yesterday.

1st swap for me also, I attended with my son.
We got some pieces from various venders that I felt were half the price than at our LFS
We enjoyed the swap very much and look forward for the next one.
I`d like to thank all the venders for being so helpful with our noobie questions, especially DB for taking some zoas off a plug and gluing them on a rubble rock for us.

I was wearing a Fender cap and my son has very light brn hair

Ahh....I don't think I saw you then. I saw a guy who looked like Scotty and the cutest lil kid that looked exactly like his kid. I started to play with the kid and tapped him on the shoulder and leg with my neon pointing stick. He was TOOOOO adorable. But then I realized it wasn't Luke.

dude, ask Saledo. I shouted "Scott!" right at that guy because I was sure it was him. I never saw scotty without a hat, so I wasn't sure if he had hair like that. So funny. That guy must have been called Scott 10 times that day.

Scott used to wear his hair long. Scott has GORGEOUS hair too. The guy looked just like Scott and the kid looked like Luke. I was all excited. Scott didn't come to the swap though. I felt like an idiot.
