I've had some dry figi rock in a Rubbermaid bin with Saltwater, a powerhead and a heater for about 2 weeks now. The ammonia slowly went up and peaked at its highest on Tuesday with 8.0ppm. Nitrite was also present at 5.0ppm. I then decided to add some of the live rock rubble in my current setup. By Thursday, the ammonia went down to 0 and Nitrite has stayed the same as of today. I've read to keep adding an ammonia source, so I started to add fish flakes, which I started today. So my question to my fellow CR members is, should I keep adding flakes to bring the ammonia up? Or do you recommend a different method? And another thing.... I keep an established freshwater tank, and I was wondering if I can add the filter pad from it into the bin with dry rock to kinda speed up the process? I apologize for the long post, but hoping someone can add some insight. Thanks in advance!
