Does Anyone Run a Carlson Surge?

I remember the first time I saw one. It was back in Menard's store, ReefDweller, Reef Dweller's, in the early 2000's.

I set a small one up once but it was pretty noisy.

Does anyone still run one? What are your thoughts?

I'm thinking of trying it again but insulating it for sound.

I ran surges for about 10 years, compared to todays little propeller pumps they are always gonna seem noisy.

i think i have an old refusurge (surge tank and refugium)that Rod build for me along time ago in my storage unit... might dust if off and play around with it.
but its kinda noisy.

I never used one on my reefs as I didn't have enough head room but I got to play with one back when Rod's Reef was still open to the public. Personally, I would take them over any modern day pump: Vortech, Gyre, Jebao, etc. Surges are simple and efficient. Cons are they were noisy and needed head room but very cool to see in action and corals loved it.

I think Midwest Coral Farms when they were still open ran them on their SPS display tank.
