all hail jeni, keeper of the reef. lol im with you because i just emailed them back with what you said and they said exchange it if i can. so i dont know how much i trust dr tims company. thanks for the help.

Actually, I have been following Dr Tim since he 1st invented Bio-Spira. He's a great scientist. Not sure about his company though. Where did you buy it from?

i got it off ebay so im stuck i was hoping maybe a lfs might let me trade it in on the reef one and only. do you happen to know a lfs close to westmont or downers grove that carries it

Try Scott's Pet Shop. I haven't been down Ogden in a while but he had just opened a couple years back. I believe it's in Westmont.

scott is still around though, remember that was no longer his store. the store on harlem is scotts store.

i have givin up on getting the dr tims after my mistake with the fresh water. i seeded with a little over a half lb of live rock and added ammonia. that was the 10th i added th lr and have been adding a little ammonia each day when someone on here suggested i bump up the ammonia to 5ppm. when i did yesterday, i now have nitrites showing so my tank has started to cycle in 10 days with 3 very small pieces of lr. thanks for the help everyone.

Once you see nitrite, cut the ammonia in 1/2. Dose that every day. When the ammonia/nitrite go to 0 by the end of the day & the nitrate shoot up, do an 80-90% WC & you're ready to go. Are you just using all dead/dry rock here? Because if you get LR from an established tank, you'd not have to cycle at all.

it is mostly diy dry rock i made about a year ago with oyster shell and portland cement. i only have a few very small pieces of live rock about .8lb. i had cycled about 6 months ago but i let my tank sit because my mh was making the water hot. i thought it was good but when i added my first clown and frag it killed my clown the ammonia went to .25ppm so i quarintiend the coral.

so now im back at a loss. i raised my ammonia to about 4 or 5ppm. the next day nitrites where at .25ppm, nitrates were at 5ppm, and ammonia was .5ppm. so i added just a little ammonia like you said puffer. i add the ammonia it goes up to 1 or 2ppm than at the end of the night or in the morning the ammonia keeps showing around .5ppm to .25ppm. the nitrites show 0 the nitrates show 0. i dont know if it has cycled because there was no big spike in anything. i read that 1ppm of ammonia equals about 3ppm of nitrite, but i didnt have a big spike. im not gana add any more ammonia and see if it goes to 0

Not a little ammonia, 1/2 of the amount needed to raise the level to 5ppm daily, until ammonia & nitrite reach 0 by the end of the day & you are showing nitrate.

by a little that is what i did it would raise ammonia to 2ppm than i check at night and .25 but no nitrite or nitrate.
