dr tims

Raising it to 2 is not the same as dosing exactly 1/2 of what you did to raise to 5 previously.
What did you add to seed the tank with bacteria?

Don't use test kits to measure ammonia for dosing. Use math only. Just use the test kit as a yes or no indicator.

Here is an ammonia dosing calculator: http://www.fishforums.net/aquarium-calculator.htm

So this is my way:

Dose ammonia to 5ppm daily, same time every day, until 5ppm of ammonia is consumed in a 24 hour period. Meaning you get 0 on your ammonia test.

Reduce the daily ammonia dose to 2.5 or 3ppm of ammonia until all nitrites are gone in 24 hours.

Now you should have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and a bunch of nitrates after 24 hours of dosing the tank.

Do water change to remove nitrates.

It's all math. The test kits are just for yes and no.

ok so im gana try this again like you guys said using the formula. i only had about .8 lb of lr so if someone could give me a rock or a hand full of established sand i would greatly apresiate it. i would give you the bottle of dr tims freshwater one and only i have because i live in westmont and dont have a car at the moment. i dont want my frag to die cause my gf gave it to my for valintines day. it has 6 heads one on its own stalk i would even *** it later on when it is doing good and give it to the person who helps me out. thanks

it was a sweet jester as i said yes i would like it and picked it out. i didnt know my tank had to recycle at the time or i would not have done it. it is not a bunny at easter that we are gana just send into the wild, lol just a newbie mistake. im spending more on water than the frag cost to keep it alive.

so this morning i put in 5ml of ammonia which was half of 5ppm like you guys instructed. i had done everything you had instructed. tonight the nitrite was gone, i had checked earlyier in the day and and they were 5ppm on my api test kit. it was also showing nitrate. now the nitrite is gone along with the nitrate being very low to gone. i put cheto in the refugium and have a deep sand bed. but the ammonia looks like it is .25. i would think for the nitrite and nitrate to have been gone the ammonia would have to be 0 as well. i dont have anything to double check the test kit. would it be possible to have a nitrites and nitrates go to 0 and still have ammonia. the nitrite was 0 in the morning till i added the ammonia. thanks
