Drain flow rate for single one inch bulkhead

Instead of trying to match drain to return flow rate, I'd just decide what sump turnover you want, because a 1" gravity bulkhead can handle a lot, probably more than a return sump needs to be. Sump turnover should only be 3-5 times tank volume, otherwise it's not going to filter to its full potential, and return pumps aren't supposed to be used for flow in the main tank. That's what closed loops/powerheards/vortechs are for.

What size tank is this for?
 
I'm fairly certain its more than that. My HOB overflow has a rio 3100 as its return, and that's 700 gph, and my overlfow is only 3/4"
 
From the multiple sources I have ready a 1" drain can safely handle 600 gph. It may be able to handle more than that but if an input screen gets slightly blocked you may end up with water on your floor.

I just recently redone my sump and overflow box... I'm currently running 2 1" bulkheads and a Q3000 pump.. Have to say is WOW!! Have one going into my fuge and the other to the skimmer ASM G3 rated 250gal

Yes, 1" bulkheads could probably handle more if needed. But might want to setup guards to stop an overflow of the tank.
 
just use some kind of adjustable valve on your return pump, so you can adjust water being pumped to your tank to whatever your overflow can handle.
 
What I did before I replaced my return pump that was too much flow was place a "T" in-line and a ball valve back to sump to control the flow. The pump still does full potential, but is not choked off essentially working it harder. Simple loop in the sump is all.
