Dry vs Wet Skimming

Hey guys,

I was wondering the pro's and con's about dry vs wet skimming. I think i had my ASM g3 setup pretty wet before as it was getting skimmate pretty **** fast. I lowered the outlet tube to lower the water level about 5mm and now it looks much drier. I see more bubbles running down the collection cup, vs just the watery skimmate collecting in the cup.

Here's how it was set to before:

I just reset the skimmer today, so not much skimmate yet. But it's basically that bubble just kinda slowly running down the collection cup.

I was wondering if it was better to do one or the other.

Thanks
Eric

They will both skim approximately the same amount of organic matter. With wet skimming you are just getting more water too. I used to skim very dry, but now skim a little wetter because the Swabbie needs some water for lubrication.

Ahh, that explains why i've been having to top off a bit more often after i started using the asm.

hmm... as long as it's skimming the same, i think i'll set it at a happy medium and leave it at that.

Thanks!
Eric
