Feeding pre-mixed food.

So i run a reactor and a skimmer and still have excess nutrients causing cyno and ha.

Think i may have an idea where its coming from.

Recently (past couple weeks) i stared using one of those reef chili squirt bottles to feed my fish . I full it half way with sw, add cube of mysis, cube of brine, 1".piece of rods, flake and vitc and mix it. I keep it in the fridge and every day just squirt some into the tank. Fish go crazy for it.

Could the mixture sitting in the fridge be breaking down and causing my algae issues?

The liquid in the cubes of mysis should be rinsed out. They are CHOCK full of phosphates. Don'r rinse rods. I used to keep premade liquid food in my fridge too but it caused too many problems so I stopped being lazy and just prepared enough food for the tank a few minutes before I fed it. I eat fresh, so my babies should too.

gotcha, i usually just unthaw some around 3-5 feed half then quirt the other half in like 2-3 hours later. always rinse it ho, guess ill stop doin that

FWIW: I was having the same issue and I thought the same thing so I started thawing and draining the liquid left and the issue went away.

This is from Rod's!!....

Will Rod's food feed my entire reef?
Yes, there are particle sizes that range from 5 microns up to 3/8 of an inch that will feed corals, fish, crustations and micro fauna that is found on a reef.

Should Rod's Food be rinsed before using?
NO! Rinsing would wash the small particles in Rod's Food away. All ingredients are rinsed thoroughly before Rod's Food is made.

Why are there land based vegetables in Rod's Food?
Broccoli is high in vitamin C content and vitamin C has been proven to help with HLLE. Carrots have carotenoids that aid in coloration.

I dunno that rock i imagine was pretty old. Maybe die off from adding like 20lbs before this all started?
