Fighting clowns

when I first started my biocube 29 about 11 months ago I bought 2 black and white clowns... They were always fine together .. The female was always a little aggressive but never hurt the male... Now for the past couple weeks the female has gotten really mean(tore the males tale and lips are starting to look beat up)) causing the male to hide in my xenias all the time ... Both fish eat normal and stuff ... Just wondering why and or what I should do

So I put the female in a critter keeper ... And the male clown seems happy as can b without the female pickin on him all the time .didn't go into the xenias once .. I don't know what to do I've never heard of them turning on each other after so long ...

In my experience all clown pairs especially young ones fight from time to time. It could be that they are thinking about spawning in the future or if they are still young the female can just be putting the male in his place. As long as they are not doing too much damage to each other I leave them be. If one is taking a lot of damage I would do what you did and put them in a breeder net until it heals up and let them back in.

My older spawning pairs from time to time beat each other up a little bit. When this happens I increase my feeding and it helps lessen their aggression and gives them the extra nutrients to heal up.

How long is ok to leave the female in the breeder net ... It's only .5 gallon...

If you keep her fed and she's getting fresh water circulating, she will be fine in there for a while. She may be happier with something to host in while she's on lockdown thou.

When I first brought home my snowflakes they were still tiny and I kept them in a critter keeper mini size. They were in that container for weeks before being released.
