Filtration

Just got a 46 bowfront for my parents. I want some opinions on what filtration would be good to go with. It's going to be a FOWLR tank so don't need to go to crazy. I'm debating between canister filter or hob. What's some input on this?

Not partial to cans or hang on back. Now Having a sum has made me never use one of them again.

I used the sun sun cans back in my freshwater day. Ran 2 on a 75 and it kept my tank super clean and it had between 10-15 cichlids in it. As far as for your situation I'd still run a sump

Yeah I really don't want to mainly because I really don't have the space for where they want to the tank. But maybe I can convince them to move it downstairs

Drill two holes in the back glass, bulkhead it and plump it to a 20g sump below. You will need to slide the tank out 3 inches that is it. Then get a good skimmer like most have said.

Where there's a will there's a way, like already stated even just a small sump can afford you the chance to get a skimmer and the skimmers available now give you lot's of options and are so much better than any hang on, plus the tank will look better without stuff hanging on or stuff in the tank. Good luck, let your folks know that in the long run it's really somethng necessary even for an FOWLR, maybe even more for an FOWLR as they tend to get overstocked and over fed.

Once you have a sump you can add a refug.

Also for the best bang for the space the Tunze Skimmers rock.

The problem I have with room is under the stand. Guess it's time to make one
