Flame Angel in a reef? Oppinions?

Hey guys. I'm getting my stock list together for my 65. I currently have 3 chromis in the tank. I know I will be adding a Midas Blenny, 2 black ice clowns, and possibly an engineer goby in the distant future (depending on bio load). My conundrum is I want a flashy swimmer as my center piece fish. Specifically an flame angel. What's you guys experience with them? Hit or miss? I'm almost to the point where I would sell my acans and high end Zoas to have one but I'm just nervous and don't want advise from the LFS. If it is a no go I'm kind of lost on what my one big fish will be. Any input or experienced opinions would be appreciated

Hit or miss, even with SPS. They won't actually consume SPS but they can nip to the point where you get no polyp extension. I really want a flame or bicolor as well but my PE is so good that I don't want to risk it.

Look into some of the nicer reef safe wrasses. The naoko thst Gary just got is stunning. AACorals has a super nice Solon wrasse too that would be amazing in a reef. They are great swimmers.

I have one in my reef, and he has been good till last week. I have had him for about 6 months now.. Hes never nipped on any LPS or Zoas, but he does nip on any SPS with polyps. He has also gone after my kole tang that has been in there with him for 6 months and unfortunately the tang had died because of him.. I am currently trying to catch the bastard but Its impossible. I am not tearing my rock apart to get him, so I am gonna keep trying. I have the 2 liter bottle trap but doesn't like to go near it yet. Hopefully I can get his stupid azz. He is a beauty but a pain now..

Never had an issue in my three years with flame. Had both zoas and sps.....didn't notice any nipping at them

In general Angels have bully tendencies...

I've had Flames in reefs in the past and have a Coral Beauty in one now.

IME, no doubt it is "Hit and Miss"

For me, it has comes down to 2 things...
If they "turn to the dark side" are you prepared to pull out all your rock into a rubbermade to get it out?

If not, don't risk it.
If so, they are some of the best "under 100gal" fish around!

I've got an engineer blenny if you'd like him. I consider him a "flashy swimmer" - at 5-6" long they glide just over the rock and inbetween coral like an eel. He's way too big for my 14gal cube but came with the tank when I bought it earlier this year. I just want him to go to a bigger tank. He's got personality too. You know they burrow and make tunnels under the rock right?

If you're interested let me know. I'll have him until someone wants to take him. I'm upgrading to 40g in a few months so he'll have a little more room but 65 would even be better.

I've had flame angel in the past and so long as he was fed he didn't peck. He pecked coral only when I fed less.

Yea I'm defiantly interested. I'll be pretty busy for the next two weeks cause I have a fight coming up but I will defiantly stay in touch. Thank you.
