Frag Tank Lighting Ideas

So I got my new frag tank and now I am trying to figure out what lighting to put over it. I am pretty sure I want to go with LED I just can't decide which to go with.

Frag tank dimensions are 48x24x12 and it will have several different frag rack heights depending on the type of coral.

So far my thoughts were to run either of the following.

The Coral Compulsion par38 x 2

or 2 of the Evergrow D120

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2 par 38 will not be enough light, the 2 120W fixtures would be or get 2 100W multi chips from ledgroupbuy, photon32 would also work

i would go with 2 Coral Compulsion programmable 120 watt led light.. I have two of the non programmable over my tank and love them... great price on the light and amazing customer service

coral compulsion just resells the evergrow fixtures...

Just like people, many look the same, but it's what's on the inside that counts:

even if they're the same layout and actual diodes (I don't think they are) I don't think evergrow has a three year warranty, and Jimmy is good for it. . . my .02 anyway.

It all depends on what type of coral you will be putting in the tank. 2x Par38 bulbs might be enough for a mix (plus you can always add more later) or 2x Everglow might be overkill and you would have to turn them down. I have 2x DIY Rapidled fixtures over my frag tank and it is blasted with light, I could have probably gone with a lot less LEDs. The nice thing about the Par38 bulbs is you can add or subtract and have them angled to hit specific areas. Plus you could always bring the Par38 bulb along with you to frag swaps if you were planning on that in the future.

I have 102 leds over my 265 gallon tank with everything growing great. In fact they are not even turned all the way up, blues 85% and whites 35%. I disagree with blasting corals with crazy amounts of light or buying expensive high watt fixtures only to run them at 50% power. If I had an all SPS tank I would probably need a little more light around the edges, but that is where the LPS and Zoas are and they prefer lower light.

For that footprint, anything less than 4 par 38's would not be enough. I had one par 38 on a 10 gallon and the edges were kinda dark. My estimate on coverage would be roughly 12X10 approximately.

If it were me, I would do two of the cc-120p's. One will cover an area of 20X20 at least dependent upon how high you hang them. Since it's a frag tank, you'll want to hang them up pretty high.

I have 10 foot ceilings so hanging hight isn't an issue.

Evergrow does have a 3 year warranty just the same as CC. (FYI) I currently have a few of their lights. Just seems overkill for a 12" deep tank but may go that direction anyways.

Was only thinking par38's because someone mentioned them to me. Have no experience so I wasn't sure about spread or power. Seems those are out.

Thanks for all the info!
