I was wondering of glass tops would cause loss of par? I know the second option I have to use won't because is awesome on my bio cube, but was thinking about glass top for the 40b. Your thoughts please.....

To some degree yes. Especially if it gets covered in salt spray and or condensation.

but not that much I have don't forget most lights have way more par than required... I have glass just wipe it down once a week ..but because you are going with a canopy screen would be ok ... one more thing with glass you get less evaporation..

It will probably lower your ph due to lack of gas exchange. I'd just do the screen top

+1 for the screen top.
I used clear netting from BRS and window screen kits from Menards since I have jawfish that are notorious jumpers.
